Rory

Rory Smith is our resident people technology practitioner with a proven ability to transform conceptual ideas into systematic processes. Rory specializes in finding creative solutions to complex problems, even with the often minimal resources available to schools and nonprofits, maximizing the value of both new and existing technology through as needed customizations and system integrations.

Rory started his technology career at National Heritage Academies, helping manage the 100,000+ devices used org-wide and in the classrooms. His knack for process improvement ultimately drove him towards people technology, where outdated HR practices were being challenged by new technologies in virtually all aspects. His work was recognized by Oracle as a finalist at the 2011 Innovation Awards. As the Director of Talent Technology at Citizen Schools, Rory led several projects including the implementation of a new human resources information system (HRIS), learning management system (LMS) and reconfiguration of the fledgling applicant tracking system (ATS).

Rory holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Ferris State University and has a wide range of experience managing small, mid-size and enterprise HCM systems. He is a certified Taleo System Administrator, and has experience with some of the top ATS and HCM products available.

Rory serves as the Chief Information Officer for Positively Partners and is one of the organization’s founding members. He lives in Michigan with his wife Emilie, their two children, Lucas and Roselyn, their dog Dexter and cat Winston.
